Year 3 Gorilla class Cave Paintings - We have found out that this was how people communicated to each other in pre-historic ages.

Forces

Gorilla class are finding out about forces.

We made magnet swings in science to test if magnet poles do always face north and South.





 

Diwali

In RE we are finding out why light is special in religion.  We made Diya lamps to celebrate Diwali.

 

Angry Earth

Year 3 gorilla class visited the natural history museum to find out what makes the earth angry.  They found out about earthquakes and volcanoes and as a bonus looked at fossils and rock types to support their science topics of rocks.





 

Rocks and Weathering

We visited Set Point for a science workshop on rocks and weathering. The children found out about different types of rocks and how they are used for different purposes.

Science Week

For science week we conducted a series of experiments. For each experiment we made a prediction, tested our theories and made a conclusion based upon the evidence that we collected. Some of the experiments fizzed and popped, some of them had a terrible smell and some of them sucked in eggs with air!

Costumes

Carnival Dancing

Gorilla class are busy preparing for the carnival that is fast approaching. Today we worked with a dancer from Brazil creating our routine for the Procession - Not long now, please come along to watch us!!

Tasting Fruit

Gorilla class have spent the afternoon tasting fruits from the Mediterranean.  There were lots of different flavours and textures. We all enjoyed sampling the new tastes.













 

Personification

Gorilla class spent the morning with year 6 composing a poem focusing on personification.

Year 6 were amazing teachers and we really had fun writing our verses.


















Penguin Class

Anti-Bullying Week

As part of Anti-bullying week we have been uncovering the true meaning of bullying through discussions, sharing experiences and role play. We looked at the differences between being rude, mean and bullying and how to support those that need it.

We shared our ideas with other year 3 and year 4 classes as part of an Anti-bullying assembly.

 

Volcanoes

We have been learning about volcanoes and the effect they have on the land around them. We investigated why people would choose to live near a volcano and found out about many facts such as there are minerals in the soil for farming crops and tourists visit these places bringing money to the area and creating jobs.

From the information that we uncovered we designed and made a volcanic landscape that included both physical and human features of volcanic regions. We even invited some parents into school to share our knowledge and help us with our learning.





 

Science Topic: Rocks

Year 3 penguins class. As part of our Science topic on Rocks we visited Set Point Soanes Centre. We investigated different types of rock surfaces and how they had been formed.





 

 

Natural History Museum

Year 3 visited the Natural History Museum. We studied the impact of volcanoes and earthquakes on the earth as part of our topic studies. We also looked at fossils to help our understanding of our Science topic.

 

London Zoo

We went to London Zoo to uncover facts about penguins. We had a fantastic time, watching the penguins swim around in the cold, blue water.

For our poetry recital we performed the 'Veggy Lion' by Spike Milligan to the rest of the children in our Gainsborough family. We really thought about the importance of the words in the poem, our audience and worked hard to developed our confidence. We worked in groups to create the actions to match the words.

A Child's Garden

In English we have been studying a book called 'A Child's Garden' written by Michael Foreman. As part of our WOW lesson we visited the local park in order to gain our own knowledge of this setting, allowing us to relate to a character in the story.

We listened to the sounds of the crunching grass under our feet, the singing birds and the silence as we stood still. We talked about the growing plants and related this to the way that the vine grows in the story.





 

Parent Morning





 

Bow Arts Project

We worked with an art specialist from the Bow Arts Project to develop our skills when creating observational drawings in the same style as famous artists such as Henry Moore. Using charcoal and chalks we recreated images of famous landmarks along the River Thames as part of our Docklands topic.





Poetry Workshop with Year 6

The Year 6 children became teachers for the morning and helped the Year 3 children to gain a greater understanding of poetry. Working in pairs the Year 6 children read a piece of poetry that they had written  and asked the Year 3's to share their opinions and to discuss what they liked about the poem and what could be improved. Year 3's were encouraged to focus on the use of voice, tone and expression, the use of language and the meaning of a poem. Using the Year 6 children as a guide they worked together to create a new poem.

 

Greek Mythology

In year 3 we have been learning about Ancient Greek mythology. When studying the story of Theseus and the Minotaur we created our own play scripts and puppets to help us to role play the story.
